AJK Pakistan is the abbreviated name for the Pakistani state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). It is located in the northern part of the country, bordering the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir. The territory is mainly mountainous, with most of its population residing in the Jhelum Valley and larger urban areas. AJK has its own elected legislature and government, but is largely self-governing under Pakistani control.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir, commonly known as AJK, is a region in Pakistan with a disputed status. It is located in the northwest of the country, bordered by Pakistan to the south and east, Afghanistan to the northwest, and Jammu and Kashmir to the northeast. Its capital is Muzaffarabad.

The history of AJK can be divided into two distinct periods: pre-partition and post-partition.

During pre-partition, AJK was part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which included the present-day territories of both India and Pakistan. The region was controlled by the Maharajah of Jammu and Kashmir and the British Empire. This era ended with the dissolution of princely states in 1947 after the Partition of India.

In post-partition, AJK, along with the rest of former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, was divided among India and Pakistan. AJK was placed under Pakistani control, and the first municipal elections were held in 1951. Since then, the region has been a self-governing entity, though its status has been in dispute with India.

The region is home to the Mujahideen, a separatist group that seeks self-determination for the region. A conflict between Pakistan and India has seen the region become an area of military confrontation between the two countries in recent years, with both India and Pakistan claiming exclusive possession of AJK.
